PANZER BLACK "SCHIFFMUTZE"

   The "schiffmutze" (literally "boat cap") was the standard German army field cap before the war.  Although it was officially replaced by the M43 cap in 1943, it remained popular with panzer crews, who found the visor of the M43 cap got in their way when looking through gun sights and scissors telescopes.
     The black wool model was worn by panzer crews of both the Army and Waffen SS  and had a flap that folded down  to cover the ears in cold weather.

HAT SIZES
Unlike modern caps, these caps are not adjustable. To order a cap you need to specify size. Don’t be embarrassed if you don’t know your hat size — in this day of adjustable one-size-fits-all baseball caps most of us never think about it.
