FIELD GRAY OFFICER'S M-43 FIELD CAP

   The famous German visored field cap was first issued in 1943, following the success of the SS camouflage version introduced the year before. Modeled on the short-visored cap long worn by mountain troops, it was an immediate success on all fronts.
     The field gray wool model was worn by both the army and thre Waffen SS. It had a fold-down cold weather flap to cover the ears that was secured by 2 small aluminum buttons at the front. Officer's caps were distinguished by silver cord trim around the top.

Unlike modern caps, these caps are not adjustable. To order a cap you need to specify size. Don’t be embarrassed if you don’t know your hat size — in this day of adjustable one-size-fits-all baseball caps most of us never think about it.
